Q&A Interview with Co-Founder Wade Long
Q: What initially sparked your interest in visual arts and graphic design?
A: Well, I've always been drawn to creativity, even as a kid. I couldn't resist doodling and playing around with different letter shapes. That's where it all began, really.
Q: How did your journey into graphic design evolve during your high school years?
A: High school was where things really started to take off for me. I got my first taste of graphic design there, experimenting with digital tools and exploring the whole creative process. It was like unlocking a whole new world.
Q: Where did you begin your professional career in graphic design, and what did you learn there?
A: Kinko's Copies in Downtown Eugene was where I got my foot in the door. It was a fantastic learning ground. I soaked up the foundational principles of design and layout while catering to all sorts of clients' needs and styles.
Q: What pivotal moment occurred during your time at Eugene Weekly?
A: Eugene Weekly was a game-changer for me. I really got into the rhythm of journalism and brought my own spin to layouts, giving them a unique voice and visual identity. It was a blast!
Q: What led you to California, and what role did you undertake there?
A: California beckoned with its promise of new opportunities. I landed a gig as a Senior Graphic Designer at a top internet networking company. There, I tackled some seriously big projects, honing my skills in the process.
Q: Upon returning to Oregon, how did you continue to contribute to the local design landscape?
A: Coming back to Oregon felt like coming home. I dove right back into the local design scene, earning props for my senior-level expertise and bringing fresh ideas to the table.
Q: What significant encounter set the stage for a transformative partnership in your career?
A: Ah, that'd be working at Ninkasi Brewing Company. That's when I crossed paths with Nick Yarger, who turned out to be a great business match.
Q: What was the outcome of your partnership with Nick Yarger?
A: Nick and I joined forces to create Manifest Creative, a hub of design excellence and innovation. Together, we're Manifesting dreams into reality.
